2013 President's Message
Dear Fellow Advocis Member,
It gives me great pleasure to write to you and reflect upon 2012.
I am proud of what the Calgary chapter executive and our volunteers have achieved this year. There has been a great mix of educational events, fellowship and advocacy.
At the local level Advocis volunteers have worked tirelessly through Regulatory Affairs and the Provincial Advocacy Committee (PAC) to protect the Alberta consumer and promote the professional financial advisor. Advocis is working co-operatively with government and regulatory bodies such as the Alberta Securities Commission and Alberta Insurance Council to ensure consumers of financial services are adequately protected and have ample choice and access to professional financial advice.
One of our biggest challenges and I believe opportunity, lies in membership. There are over 6000 small business financial advisors in Alberta of which over 1500 are Advocis members. We continue to reach out to advisors and stress the importance of belonging to the pre-eminent professional association for financial advisors – Advocis. We champion fair and ethical practices in our industry while working for the best interests of the Canadian consumer.
We are counting on your continued support for 2013 and beyond. As well as educational events planned for 2013, we will have the fellowship events of the Curling Funspiel, Golf Tournament and the Christmas Luncheon which is becoming our most popular event. This year’s Luncheon was a record breaker with headline guest speaker Ken Taylor. Yet another testament to the quality of our events Calgary chapter volunteers plan, run and promote for you.
2013 promises to be another year filled with change, challenges and also opportunity. As the Advocis Calgary chapter of The Financial Advisors Association of Canada we can achieve great things. I reflect on our motto: ‘non solis noblis’ – Latin for ‘not for ourselves alone.’ Let us stand proud to be members of Advocis.
Thank you to you and also our sponsors whom together make us a strong and vibrant chapter of Advocis. If you have any questions or concerns regarding Advocis please let me know.
Best Regards,
Mike Bibby, CHS, CFP, CLU
2013 Advocis Calgary Chapter President
