Financial Advisors Index (FAI)

Advocis and Western University have developed a proprietary confidence index based on the views and sentiments of financial advisors Canada-wide. The Financial Advisors Index (FAI) is a new economic indicator and is intended to be on par with other indices such as the internationally recognized Ivey Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) and the Duke CFO Index.

Financial advisors are at the forefront of their clients’ critical financial decisions on a constant basis and have a first-hand view of how individuals, families and small businesses are reacting to the world around them. The FAI captures this first-hand sentiment through a regular monthly survey.

The FAI measures Canadian advisor confidence, defined as the degree of optimism about the state of the economy expressed by financial advisors and their clients through their savings, investing and risk protection activities. Over time, the goal is to identify the attributes of advisor confidence that provide a lead indicator for economic, capital market, asset management and risk management activity.

How will the index be used?

Once again, Advocis is taking the lead in promoting the value of financial advice and financial advisors. Know first-hand how your fellow advisors feel about the state of financial affairs.

Governments, regulators, the media and the public will derive great value in what financial advisors have to say about the state of the economy and where they believe it is headed.

Think about the minister of finance wanting to know where the index is heading as he prepares his fall economic statement or spring budget. You can form part of that view.

Commit to participate and be part of a new statistical benchmark

We need you to commit to completing our survey each and every month over the next few years so we can develop credible statistics. Important trends are much easier to determine from a dedicated group of advisors responding on a regular basis, so we need you to commit.

It will only take you a few minutes every month to answer some straightforward questions about how you view financial prospects today and into the foreseeable future.

We have worked closely over the past year with Western University’s departments of Economics and Statistical and Actuarial Sciences, and Western’s Ivey School of Business to develop a handful of straightforward yet telling questions. The index has already been piloted with a group of dedicated advisors to ensure we are capturing the right areas.
