2014 Incoming President's Message
Dear Fellow Advocis Member,
My name is Andrew Thorburn and I am honoured to assume the role as Calgary Chapter President for the term of January 1st, 2014 to June 30th, 2015. It gives me great pleasure to represent all members and work toward improving the Advocis experience for each and every one of you.
I am proud of what the Calgary Chapter Executive and our Volunteers achieved in 2013 and I am confident that we will deliver informative and beneficial content for you again in the coming year.
With the support of our Sponsors, we have secured some fabulous talent and will be offering a comprehensive educational platform to help you build and enhance your business.
We will also be hosting our three social events – The Curling Funspiel, The Charity Golf Classic and the Christmas Luncheon so I invite you to come out and enjoy some fellowship with your colleagues.
Throughout the past year, volunteers at the local, provincial and national levels have worked tirelessly through Regulatory Affairs and the Provincial Advocacy Committee (PAC) to protect Alberta consumers and promote the professional financial advisor. Advocis continues to work co-operatively with government and regulatory bodies such as the Alberta Securities Commission and Alberta Insurance Council to ensure consumers of financial services are adequately protected and have ample choice and access to professional financial advice.
As we all embark on another year ahead we will undoubtedly be faced with change, challenges but also opportunity; take comfort in knowing that you do not need to travel the road alone. In Advocis, you are part of a community that is driven to improving the environment in which we operate to the benefit of not only ourselves as Financial Advisors but just as importantly for our clients and their families.
I wish each of you a healthy and prosperous 2014 and leave you with our motto: ‘non solis noblis’ – Latin for ‘not for ourselves alone.’
Let us stand proud to be members of Advocis.
Kind Regards,
Andrew Thorburn
2014 Advocis Calgary Chapter President
