Helping Our Neighbors In Need

Our great City and its neighboring communities recently experienced the worst flooding to hit the area in over a hundred years. The impact was devastating.  The cost cannot be tallied, as the impact goes far beyond the financial.

This time of crisis and sadness quickly turned into a story of hope and resiliency. The outpouring of support, both financial and otherwise, even caught the attention of the national media.  Some seemed surprised by the number of volunteers and the sheer willingness of Albertans to help complete strangers. Here at Advocis Calgary, we were not at all surprised.  We are well aware of the caring and charitable nature of Calgarians and of our membership.  Many of our members put their businesses aside to assist with clean up efforts and put in hours volunteering in some of the hardest hit areas. Many also donated monetarily.

The clean up and rebuilding will continue for a long time to come. What the flood waters did in a matter of hours will take a months, perhaps years, to reverse.  We want to keep the volunteer efforts going strong, for as long as needed. Right now, High River is in great need of help. If you are able, please consider lending a hand. The Town of High River’s website,  http://www.highriver.ca, has some useful information on where to meet and what you might need to bring with you.

For many of us, what draws us to this business is the ability to help people. Right now we have the opportunity to help a lot of people at a time when they need it most.
