On Wednesday, November 7, 2017, Advocis will be holding its 7th Annual Legislature Day in Edmonton. Legislature Days are a vital part of our government relations strategy as they provide financial advisors the opportunity to discuss key issues directly with their MLAs. Your participation is vital to make this day a success! It is also a great opportunity to see in action the value of Advocacy at work with Advocis.
I used the attached draft letter to contact my MLA and both emailed and posted this to Graham Sucha in the Calgary-Shaw riding. Within a few days I received a response from his assistant. It couldn’t have been easier! The Schedule for my MLA isn’t out yet, but if you can get a letter sent off to your MLA the first week of October it would be great timing.
Our legislature day incorporates a series of meetings that Advocis members set up with their MLAs and the opportunity to sit in the legislature gallery and be recognized in the Chamber. The meetings will be followed by a reception at the Royal Glenora Club (11160 River Valley Road Northwest – Strathcona / Glenrose Room) at 5:30pm where members can continue the day’s discussions with their MLAs in a more relaxed setting. We will also be hosting a dinner meeting for our members the evening before on Tuesday, November 6th for those coming from out of town. The timing for this meeting starts at 4pm with a guest speaker followed by dinner.
We’ve made the process of arranging a meeting with your local MLA easier by drafting the attached letter that you can either send to your MLA or use as a phone script. Contact information for your MLA can be found here
Advocis will ensure you are sufficiently prepared for your meeting. We will provide you with an agenda for the day, key messages and a leave-behind document, which will be presented at our morning briefing session on November 7th at the Matrix Hotel (10640 100 Avenue). MLAs will be invited to our reception, so if you can’t secure a meeting, you can connect with your MLA during our reception.
To assist those coming from out of town, we have booked a block of rooms at the Matrix Hotel. Parking will be covered and meals for the day will also be provided for all participants.

Most out of town Advocis attendees stay the night on Tuesday 6th November and head back home to Calgary/Red Deer after the Royal Glenora Club reception on Wednesday 7th November. There is a possibility of car-pooling if you contact either myself or Richard Lee through the Advocis Calgary email. Last year was a great success and I look forward to seeing you in Edmonton this year.
