Another successful Advocis Curling Funspiel took place on March 7th @ the North Hill Curling Club. Besides being a newly renovated facility, the staff was great, making themselves available for any last minute changes or accommodations we needed. The food was abundant and very tasty. All in all a great venue. We will definitely go back in 2015.

On Tuesday, November 5th, Advocis Calgary is sponsoring a Blood Donor day in conjunction with Canadian Blood Services. The need for blood in our city is never ending. Medical treatments, accidents, and surgeries all require blood. It’s amazing that the entire system is based on people like you that volunteer an hour of their time to donate blood.

On Wednesday, November 6, 2013, Advocis will be holding its third annual Legislature Day in Edmonton. Legislature Days are an important part of our government relations strategy. They give financial advisors the opportunity to discuss with their MLA the key issues that matter most to them, their business and their clients.

In the June 6th Financial Post, Greg Pollock has a Comment piece on why banning commissions will decrease access to advice. Please take the time to read this piece as the potential banning of commissions on financial products in Canada is one of the biggest threats to this industry that Advocis has seen in its 106-year history.

An Exciting Year!!
2012 is finally winding down. At the Calgary Chapter of Advocis we are thrilled to be closing out the year on such a high note. Our Christmas Luncheon was an overwhelming success. With Ambassador Ken Taylor as our Keynote speaker and over 400 members in attendance, this year’s event turned out to be our most successful in decades.
